Just when I thought I’d developed a great skin and hair routine for myself, winter has turned to spring and it’s now summer. And my skin and hair aren’t doing so great after all.
My skin feels a bit more greasy, I’m getting a few new breakouts and my hair gets greasier a lot sooner than it used to.
Well…time for an overhaul!
I’ve been experimenting with a few products and I think I have a good thing going again. Summer routine, here I come!
Here are some things that are helping me right now.

This soap is made from 100% pure dead sea mineral mud from Israel. It is chemical- and preservative-free, vegan and hasn’t been tested on animals. It has the benefit of added therapeutic-grade essential oils and the best part? It’s mild enough to be used on the face too.
If Dead Sea Mud isn’t your thing, let’s go with something more conventional, yet equally gentle and versatile. The same company makes this organic Aloe Vera, Calendula and Turmeric soap bar. Again, added with mild essential oils and is gentle enough for the face!
If you’re like me and don’t like using soap bars on your face, you might like this one. I have pimples related to hormones and stress, and using this the past few weeks (along with the masks that I’ve mentioned below) has REALLY helped me. I have combination skin, and despite the very occasional (and small, might I add) pimple propping up, my face hasn’t felt been clear in months. A little word of caution though – people with dry-ish skin migt find it too drying.
This mask is wonderful for me. My skin feels so soft after I use this, and after using a couple of masks per week for a few weeks, I really feel like it’s been helpful for my skin. There’s also a lot of serum left in the packet which I use an extra couple of days so it’s really great value for money (according to me).
Okay, I have not personally used these (YET!) but I’m including this here because a friend has recommended this to me. It’s got 16 different sheet mask types. And if you click on the link above, you’ll see the crazy great reviews this has got! There’s all different people saying glowing things about it – men, women, young, old. I’m definitely trying this after my Tea Tree masks get done. Who’s with me?!
This really simple product is now a skincare staple for me! It’s a very, very mild physical exfoliant so although it says “Daily” I don’t use it daily. I use it every other day in summer because it’s very hot, humid and quite dusty where I live, but you can feel free to find out what frequency suits your skin. It leaves my skin feeling extremely fresh and bright.
Like I mentioned previously, I live in a hot, humid and quite a dusty place. So I keep this spray in my bag at all times – it works really well for me to refresh my skin. According to the product reviews, people also use it as a makeup setting spray but honestly I’ve never used it for that so I can’t personally vouch for that. Keep in mind though, that this is not a chemical-free or all-natural product.
Okay I can not start with how important Shea Butter is for my overall skin (and hair) care routine. This is the one I’d ordered (it’s 100% pure, unrefined Shea Butter which is what we need) when I was in the States and I still have some of it left. I’ll do another whole post about how I use Shea Butter next week, but for now if you’re looking for this stuff, the link above is definitely good quality.
Okay, time for another beauty basic. Vegetable glycerin! This is again something I use for overall skin care. Glycerin (in case you didn’t know) is one of the most gentle, effective and versatile things you can add to your skin and haircare routine. I can do a post on how I use this if you’d like.
Okay, okay so technically this has nothing to do with summer, really. But I just HAD to include this here because I saw it online a few weeks ago, bought it on a whim and haven’t regretted it since then! It’s seriously been effective for me from the first use. The FIRST use! But I only tend to use it once a day (and my normal Dabur Red toothpaste at night because this stuff is amazing for the mouth ulcers I tend to get now and then).
So those were my Summer Essentials under $10! What are yours? Leave them in the comments and let’s share some recommendations!
